A super easy spring rum cocktail for two with an exotic twist! Full of fresh berries, a mixed berry mojito is perfect for spring sipping.
Like my summery sweet peach sangria, I feel a little cheap making a recipe for a cocktail that is so unbelievably easy. Do you really need me to tell you to muddle some fruit, herbs, and sugar in a glass then top with rum and soda? (Oh! What a giveaway.)
But what makes this mojito a little more special is the addition of my all time favorite spice: cardamom!
Looking for a different mojito? Here’s one with Strawberry Basil and just a splash of balsamic vinegar for an extra rich summertime sip!
This tropical coconut lychee martini is full of summery flavor too!

You all know my love affair with cardamom. I add it in everything. My spiced all-butter pie crust, my herb-crusted lamb rack, this seasonal panna cotta. It’s unique and it’s versatile enough to go with sweet and savory meals. Any time I want a particularly exotic or celebratory hint in a dish…I add cardamom. It is a bit expensive, but fortunately a little bit of flavor goes a long way.
How to make a Mixed Berry Mojito
In case I haven’t stated how simple this is enough…here we go again. A mojito is very simple. Simply muddle some stuff together in a glass to get the flavor you want. Then add some rum, ice, and soda. That’s it.
The Alcohol: Rum
The only real stipulation I have about a mojito is that it should use rum. Preferably white rum if you want to highlight the flavors of your fruit. Aged rum can be a tasty addition, but you might want to go with a simpler classic mojito flavor so you can highlight the rum itself. Dark rum and spiced rum should be avoided.
Of course, you are welcome to try some other white alcohol, but then this wouldn’t be a mojito. Be my guest. But if you hate rum, maybe don’t make a mojito in the first place.
The Fruit
Make sure it’s fresh fruit! A.) It’s classier to use fresh fruit. And B.) That’s how you get the intense flavor and color. Frozen fruit or syrups/juices just won’t add as much flavor to your glass.
The Herbs and Spices
Mint is a classic mojito addition. I love keeping it in this particular recipe because it adds to the fresh springy flavor.
Lime is another classic mojito flavor. I considered cutting it out for this drink, but you need some acidity to cut through the sweet fruit and sugar.
Cardamom, I just can’t imagine life without it. I usually think of it as a winter spice, but the fragrant herbal/floral character is perfect for spring too! It adds just a slight layer and depth to the drink. Make sure you go sparingly. No more than 3-4 dashes ground cardamom total!
I wouldn’t recommend using cardamom seeds as they need time to soak and develop flavor in the glass. If you have a cardamom simple syrup however, that would be excellent.
To sweeten it, add a bit of sugar. I’d recommend plain white sugar or simple syrup as brown sugar or honey add too many flavors and clutter up the crisp spring taste of the drink.
Club Soda
Adding a splash of soda to the muddling process helps dissolve the sugar. It also allows the flavors to combine and infuse the rest of the drink. Topping the drink with more soda is optional. But I prefer a bit of fizz for an extra refreshing sip!
