Sugar with Spice 2020 Holiday Gift Guide
A collection of Sugar with Spice favorite gifts for the 2020 holiday season.
The holidays are here again! Thank goodness. What a year 2020 has been: pandemics, protests, and a presidential election.
Of course there were some bright moments too. 2020 will go down as my most productive year to date. I hope you had some good times too. But after such a difficult year, we can all use some joy and festivity.
Below are my favorite gifts for whisky lovers, wine guzzlers, and general kitchen fanatics. These are some of my favorite products from this past year. (Including that new Sourdough trend!) So enjoy and let’s put 2020 behind us in style!
I have even more options for Cooks, Bakers, and Cat Lovers in my 2019 Holiday Gift Guide so be sure to check that out for some more fun and useful gifts!
For the Whisky Aficionado
Tasting Whiskey – This outstanding guide was written by Lew Bryson, who was once the editor of Whisky Advocate. So he knows what he’s talking about! It’s the perfect gift for someone who wants to dive into the nuances of whiskies around the world. And for anyone who loves to try new drams!
Whisky Stones – For those who like a chilled scotch but don’t want to dilute with water, try these freezable whisky stones! Chills drinks without watering them down.
Whisky Snifter Glasses – Any whisk(e)y aficionado will love these glasses. Their unique shape reduces contact with the air and intensifies not just the nose, but the flavor of your drink.
Glass Water Dropper – For those who are really specific about their water-to-scotch ratio! (Also helpful if you’re into tasting whisky and like the experiment with opening aromas!)
Globe Whisky Decanter – Perfect for the whisky-lover who wants to display their latest dram! Though its usefulness is debated, decanting encourages oxidation and opens up the aromas and flavors in the whisky. If that’s your thing, this is a classy way to do it! The little ship in the center is a cute touch too!
Whisky Advocate Subscription – A subscription to the world’s leading whisky magazine is the perfect gift for any whisk(e)y drinker who wants to learn more about their dram.
(I’m not an affiliate here, I just love this magazine!)
Flaviar Membership or Gift Box – A self-styled “whisky club for explorers” this is a fantastic gift idea for anyone who loves trying out new whiskies. Have a Christmas Whisky taste test in your own home!
To get an idea what it’s like read my full review of Flaviar membership. (Also not an affiliate for them. But their boxes are fun and make great gifts!)
For the Wine Lover
Wine Opening Kit – A great gift for anyone like me who needs a little help getting those wine bottles open. (My early education was watching Basil Fawlty opening a bottle of wine between his thighs in the Hotel Inspector episode. It’s a method I still use to this day.) Includes: an electric opener, a vacuum opener (my personal favorite), foil cutter, vacuum stopper, and wine pourer.
Vacuum Wine Saver – The perfect gift for those who like to really savor their bottles and drink them over a few days. This little guy remove the air and lowers the risk of oxidation, keeping your wine fresh for longer than you’d expect!
Reusable Stopper – Perfect for those of us who like to have a couple bottles open at once. Try these 8 reusable silicone wine stoppers so you can stop trying to jam that cork back into the bottle.
Wine and Cheese Tote – An adorable tote for your next wine and cheese picnic! It’s insulated to keep chilled bottles cold. And it even comes with a cheese knife and board too. (Plus it’s so cute!)
Wine Preserver – Drink your wine without ever uncorking the bottle! One of the coolest little wine gadgets on the market is this bottle opener and preserver by Coravin. It not only opens your bottle and provides a spout. But when you’re finished pouring, it will reseal your bottle, filling the hole with argon. (2 Argon capsules included.)
For the Classic Christmas
Plaid Sherpa Microfiber Blanket – so cozy and perfect for winter couches! Daisy and I have a nightly fight over who gets to snuggle in this blanket. She always wins.
Lenox Christmas Plates – Another traditional Christmas treat, this is my favorite Lenox Christmas Plate design and I was so excited to find Amazon had them this year!
Shiny Brite Christmas Ornaments – If you’re like me, you’ll remember these from your childhood! Perfect for anyone who wants a traditional Christmas tree this year.
Go even more traditional with some elegant Kurt Adler Early Years Christmas Ornaments.
Old Fashioned Christmas Candies – what is an old fashioned Christmas without those delicious old fashioned candies! Ribbons, pillows, straws, peppermints. This box from The Swiss Company has everything your old-fashioned-Christmas heart is missing!
Classic Christmas Movie Set – If you’re going for traditional this Christmas, it doesn’t get much more classic than Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, and Jimmy Stewart! I can’t go a year without watching these.
For the Sourdough Newbie
Dutch Oven with Lid – The best possible way to steam your homemade loaves.
Mason Jar with Lid – A perfect storage for you little yeast colony that can hold up to 6 cups of sourdough starter at a time!
Lame Scoring Knife – (And no, this isn’t just a lame knife from your kitchen.) Every sourdough baker longs for the day when they have their very own lame for scoring elegant crusts! Comes with 10 blades and a wooden storage box.
Proofing Baskets – If your newbie sourdough baker is tired of dirtying all their dish towels and using up every bowl in the house while they proof…get them specialized proofing baskets! The kit includes two baskets, linen covers, a lame, scraper and instruction leaflet with recipes!
Digital Kitchen Scale – Bread baking is an art. And the more exact your measurements, the more creative you can be! If you’re tired of guessing if 5 cups really equals 700 grams, this is the gift for you.
For the Cozy Kitchen
Floating Coffee Nook Shelves – The number one key to coziness? A yummy warm beverage to chase away the chills. This set up is especially helpful because the hooks mean you don’t have to stack all your mugs. (And one thing we cozy kitchen lovers all have is way too many mugs.)
Cookie/Baked Goods Jars – A good hostess always has some sweet baked treats on hand for any surprise guests. (And herself. Mostly herself.) Store them in this cute jar!
Worried your baking doesn’t always turn out so pretty? Try this vintage ceramic cookie jar instead! It also pairs beautifully with a vintage kitchen theme.
Patterned Tea Cozy – Is there anything more cozy then buying a cozy for your teapot? That’s coziness inside coziness – cozy-inception. This is my favorite style of tea cozy because you can still get into the tea pot here. (And the little ribbon ties are so cute!) But there are dozens to choose from!
Wooden Serving Utensils – Putting a bit of wood on display naturally cozies up a kitchen and a classy set of serving utensils is necessary for every home chef. Wood is also gentle enough that you can use it on everything from cast iron to non-stick pans!
For the Avid Reader
Bibliophilia Literary Post Cards – 100 post cards with some of the most famous literary quotes in the world! Now your reader can send their own writing out in style.
Pride and Prejudice Quote Scarf – An adorable infinity scarf with one of Jane Austen’s most popular quotes. A great way to take your favorite author everywhere you go.
Kindle Paperwhite – Putting off getting a kindle? This might be the year to do it. If you’re like me and need to travel with at least two books, a kindle is so much lighter!
Bath Caddy with Book Holder – Replace that iPad with a book and you’ve got a the spa evening to dream about! Just remember a book lover wants their books dry, so maybe get them a hand towel too!
Floating Book Shelves – Those of us who love to read have the habit of buying way too many books than we have room for…Give your book-lover the chance to finally get some of those book stacks off the floor with these cute shelves!
Cute Bookends – Bookends are aways a welcome gift. And the perfect way to keep all those books that are stuffed onto every possible surface from falling all over the floor!
